“The Lord is my Shepherd” -- The essence the 23rd psalm is an expression of God’s care and goodness. The psalmist depicts the God who tenderly and lovingly cares for His own. Scriptures is replete with the imagery or vision of God as a Shepherd. He gives provision, protection, power, and prosperity. It is first and foremost spiritual well-being. However, God is deeply and profoundly concerned for the material well-being of the whole world. God cares for people, and people are material creatures who require material things in order to survive. Looking at the picture of a child in a third world country prompts you to say, “this is not the way things ought to be.” God requires us to do something about it. When He blesses us, we have the responsibility to bless others who are less fortunate. He uses us as instruments to bless others.
